Weed in Chuncheon, South Korea: my experience
Hi, smokers! You probably know that cannabis laws and regulations vary from one county to another, so let’s go deeper and try to understand what is going on with weed in Chuncheon. My post covers info about weed laws, regulations, general attitude of locals and cops, hash VS weed availability and pricing, failures and success in searching weed in Chuncheon.
So, I just touched down back home from Chuncheon a couple of days ago, still got that fresh buzz in my head as I’m sparking up this joint of girl scout cookies strain. Man, Chuncheon was lit — couldn't have had a better time without those dank buds keepin' me company.
What Are the Rules About Weed in Chuncheon?
In Chuncheon, weed with a lot of a special component called THC (the stuff that makes you feel high) is not allowed. You can’t just go to a store and buy it like in some other countries. There’s also a kind of weed that doctors can give to sick people, but it doesn’t make you feel high like the other kind.
When I was in Chuncheon, I met a local guy named Steve who knows a lot about how things really work with weed in Chuncheon. He told me that even though the rules are strict, the police aren’t always super strict about it, especially with visitors.
What if I get caught with weed in Chuncheon?
In practice, as Steve said - if you are 18+ and carry less than 20 grams of weed or 10 grams of hash and do not smoke in public - you should not expect any arrest. As a maximum, cops will confiscate your stuff after they ensure you are not a dealer who delivers stuff.
There are some stories about occasional cops forcing people to give them a bribe after catching someone with weed, but such cases are rare. Usually cops do not touch foreign tourists who are spending their vacation or business trip in Chuncheon and bring money to South Korea.
Where to Buy Cannabis in Chuncheon
So, how do you actually buy cannabis in Chuncheon? Steve shared some insights. Big dealers in Chuncheon often source their products through the darknet — using services like DrChronic or Bitpharma. They then resell the cannabis to locals and tourists. While this method is possible, it’s not really practical for short-term visitors. Navigating the darknet and waiting for a package can be complicated and time-consuming.
If you are just having a short vacation or a trip to Chuncheon - purchasing weed via wholesale darknet websites is not an option. Looking for dealers on the streets and in parks is still something you may do to find some weed in Chuncheon, but more and more dealers are shifting to online orders done via messengers and payments in bitcoins instead of cash. This simply protects them from ever being caught by cops. Crypto payments are anonymous and delivery is done to selected location without any personal meetings, so both you and the dealer are secured from any possible consequences.
This was a surprise for me cause I am more old school and just “heard something about crypto”. While now all youngsters (who are usually a target group for cannabis dealers) have crypto wallets so dealers simply follow the trend. I think dealers are losing money anyway because not all clients know crypto, but Steve commented that nowadays if you do not use crypto - you 100% have a friend who uses it, so you may just send him money from card and he does crypto transaction for you. After that I remembered I also have such a friend, so I agreed with Steve.
Chuncheon’s Weed Vibe: What Locals Say
Just ‘cause the government’s trippin' on cannabis laws in Chuncheon doesn’t mean the locals are too pressed. Most of 'em are just livin' their lives, not sweatin' what you do. But don’t get it twisted — keep it respectful. Smoking weed in public in Chuncheon ain't the move, but if someone peeps you tokin’, it’s not the end of the world.
On my first night in Chuncheon, Steve invited me to a small gathering at his place — just a few friends, some beer, weed, and a PlayStation 5. It was exactly my kind of evening! I was fortunate to have met Steve, who became my go-to person for cannabis during my stay in Chuncheon. He assured me that as long as you’re respectful and avoid drawing attention, the locals are generally okay with cannabis use. But again, it’s best not to carry more than 10 grams on you.

Nope, weed with a lot of THC is not allowed in Chuncheon. But if you have just a little bit (less than 10g), the police might not make a big deal about it.

If you have a small amount (less than 10g) you probably won’t get into big trouble. The police might just take it away.
Can You Find Weed the Old-Fashioned Way in Chuncheon?
It’s possible, but it’s not as common as it used to be. Most people now buy weed through messengers and pick it up from hidden spots.

Yes, a lot of dealers sell both weed and hash, so hash is also popular and can be found in Chuncheon. Not always available, but rather popular.
Price for weed / hash in Chuncheon?
Prices vary from dealer to dealer and usually depend on quality and anything else. From what I saw - super high quality weed may go up to $20 - $25 per 1 gram (while the more you buy - the lower price you get), and high quality hash was around $30-$35 per 1 gram. Have not seen low quality weed in Chuncheon so do not know the prices, but should be lower.
